Updated per information received from Billy Kerr, reed player in the 1977 Broadway production
The REED 1 book also includes Piccolo in one quick scene change. The most prominent instruments are FLUTE and SOPRANO SAX. Then alto sax and clarinet. Some of the instrument changes are impossible, so you have to make do. Only one song is tacet.
The REED 4 book is mainly Piccolo, so pucker up.
I was not able to reach Sheila to verify, but I believe this comment refers to the rental version.
