Added based on information received from Gwendolyn Parney. From Gwendolyn’s message:
“orchestration of Grease commissioned by Royal Caribbean for their Harmony of the Seas ship … Woodwind 1, which is alto sax and flute, no improvisation, no B foot needed. The flute parts are all very exposed and often pretty high (up to high A), and are a significant part of the book. Woodwind 2 is tenor sax and clarinet, with … improvisation in [two numbers]. The clarinet is very minimal, only appearing for about 24 bars total across two numbers, and isn’t difficult.”
While not notated in the part, nor required, piccolo was an approved and welcome option by the show’s producers on #7 Rydell Fight Song and later at the dance when Miss Lynch is introduced (don’t remember what #).
(I played piccolo, flute and alto sax for Grease on the Indy with RCCL for 2 years.)
