Updated per information received from Syd Polk
Updated per information received from Andrew Studenski
Andrew tells me that the orchestrator clarifies(?) that the “ethnic flute” called for in Reed 1 could be “Wooden Flute, Ocarina, Nose Flute, etc.” It is used on only one song and needs to be able to play in E minor and F minor. Andrew suggests diatonic instruments in G and A major.
Reed 2: both oboe and english horn are double-staved for clarinet. However; the clarinet line is not transposed correctly in the Finale. WARNING the entire of Timbuktu (music #20) is NOT transposed.
Reed 3: Bass clarinet to low C. Most bassoon parts are double-staved for bass clarinet.
Updated. Thank you!
