The English Horn in the Reed 1 book is for one scene change, where the Reed 2 book is playing Clarinet… which segues attacca to the next song, where Reed 1 plays Clarinet and Reed 2 plays English Horn. We just swapped parts; the English Horn in Reed 1 is absolutely not necessary.

The bass clarinet needs a low D (possibly also a C#, I’m fuzzy on this). The bass clarinet part is extensive.

The flute/piccolo parts are relatively easy, but exposed, for both books.

The books said 2012 version. The community theatre had limited funds, so we had only reed 1 and reed 2. We took the Reed 3 exposed double reed parts and split them. There is only song in Act II for alto sax, but is it a significant part and a long, multi-part song, so one of us played that from Reed 3, and the other played triaged Reed 1 and 2 for that song. Also, we did not play the double reeds- transposed then for flute or clarinet. Note that this version is challenging on it’s face- and harder because there are very fast tempos. (and it may be more enjoyable if you research the show prior to playing it.)
