Updated per information received from Richard Krishnan
Reed 1 has some oboe marked but this is a misprint. Play on flute.
New Touring version has come out
Reed 1: Piccolo, flute,clarinet,alto sax,
Reed 2: Flute, clarinet, tenor sax
Reed 3: Clarinet, bass clarinet, baritone sax
Should add:
Reed 3:Baritone sax needs a low A
Bass clarinet is only in two numbers and doesn’t need low C
Flutes don’t need extensions.
I am currently touring in New Zealand. This new touring lineup came out in 2013 from UK.
Added as new listing. Thank you!
The Reed 4 part in this version requires bass clarinet to low D and baritone sax to low A.
Updated. Thank you–
Updated to remove flute from reed 4, based on information received from Merilee Updike.
A friend of mine asked me what B. B. meant in the Reed 3 score. I assume it is an instrument change. Can you please help me explain it? Thank you
Players often pencil in BB to mean ‘Big breath’.
Not usually found in the printed part though.
It actually is printed in the score. I’m happy to send an example. To bad I can’t simply post the picture here.
I just played the rental of this show and the reed parts go as followed:
Reed One: Piccolo, Flute, Bb Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, (and maybe Soprano Saxophone)
Reed Two: Flute, Bb Clarinet, Alto Saxophone
Reed Three: Bb Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone
Reed Four: Bb Clarinet, Bass Clarinet and Baritone Saxophone down to low A.
Maybe the editon has changed, but that is also the list on MTI shows.
Updated to reflect what appears to be a new rental edition. I removed soprano saxophone from reed 1 as shown on MTI’s website, and left reed 4’s bass clarinet low D indication, but I welcome continued corrections/updates. Thanks–
I’m playing Reed 3 in this at the moment (the MTI rental), and this is how the parts are:
Reed One: Piccolo, Flute, Bb Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone
Reed Two: Flute, Bb Clarinet, Alto Saxophone
Reed Three: Bb Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, Oboe
Reed Four: Bb Clarinet, Bass Clarinet and Baritone Saxophone down to low A.
The Soprano Sax in Reed One is only in “Moses Supposes”, but it is very prominent there.
Reed Two also has a line written for Tenor Saxophone, but this isn’t listed in the front of the part, and could very easily be transposed and played on alto.
Reed Three has Oboe in Moses Supposes for about 5 bars, which could be easily omitted, but it is definitely present (and is listed at the front).
Updated to reflect this information. Thanks!
What a riot! I am playing the MTI rental marked “National” right now, and the parts are:
1. Picc, fl, clar, sop, alto
2. Fl, clar, alto, “tenor” (2 bars (or was it 4?) the entire show! He’s just transp. 8vb, it’s doubled exactly on clar in Reed 3)
3. Fl (very little except ‘Singin’ Finale), clar, tenor, oboe (tiny nonsensical part easily transposed)
4. Clar, bass, bari
This messy score/parts desperately need the love and care/attention I just don’t think it’s ever going to get.
