Do you know how much flute and picc are called for in these books? I need to know how proficient the players need to be before contracting players. Thanks!

A quick note about the Tour orchestration – the Reed 2 pennywhistle is only in “Ireland” and is marked as optional in the book. It actually can’t be played on pennywhistle in D if you use the transposed version instead of the original key (it goes off the range of the instrument to a low Db during a solo). The alternate option given in the book is piccolo, which also can’t play the written low Db… so the part can either be done with lots of technical awkwardness on a pennywhistle in C, or played 8va on flute. Odds are good this is why they took pennywhistle out altogether in the London version, where the original key option isn’t provided in the book.

On a much happier note, the bari part goes down to low A.
